Bristol - The Better Food Company

There's a sign outside the Better Food Company, proudly proclaiming the fact that they are winners of the 2010 Natural and Organic Best Independent Retailer Award.  They were also finalists for the 2010 Soil Association's Best Organic Retailer.  Step inside the shop and you'll soon find out why:
They grow their own organic food at Wood Barn Farm, just 12 miles away in Chew Magna (a great name for a place producing food!).  It's a community farm and a not for profit organisation (see www.thecommunityfarm.co.uk for more details).
When I called they were selling Swift early potatoes, and Edzell Blue potatoes, a floury blue skinned second early potato.  They also operate a vegetable box scheme.

Back in the shop, there's a good selection of food for vegetarians:
They sell organic bread, which comes from Bordeaux Quay (in Bristol) on Sundays and a local supplier in the week.
There's also flat breads, like this red onion focaccia:
There's  a good selection of local cheeses like Wyfe of Bath:
There's also a café, with some attractive salads:
and to go with all the bread and cheese there's organic wine:
