Congleton

Congleton is known as Bear Town, a place apparently so lawless that they used the fund for a new bible to buy a new bear for bear baiting! But that was in the 1620s, today it should be called Sweet Town as there's a Sweet Extravaganza at 13 Swan Bank selling traditional and new sweets and round thw corner a branch of Mr Simms old fashioned sweet shop on Bridge Street.

Opposite Mr Simms (and featured in the picture) is Bread and Basil. It's a delicatessen and cafe
which sells, amongst many other items, around 80 different cakes gateaux and cheesecakes.
We bought (and enjoyed) carrot cake, rum babas, fruit loaf and also some Quickes cheddar cheese.

last time I went into Bread & Basil there was a very attractive young lady who served me. Service with a smile. Plus the food was really nice
