Fish in a Box

First of all I must compliment Fiona Asson and John Perry for not calling their internet fish selling business "Fish On-line"!

Fish in a Box are a home delivery service of fresh quality fish, straight from the coast. They send the fresh fish nationwide by overnight courier. In Shropshire, the Welsh Borders, South Worcestershire, and parts of Cheshire and Staffordshire they offer free delivery in their own vans.

Their website http://www.fishinabox.co.uk is very helpful and has lots of recipes and tips (e.g. "only use unsalted butter in frying as it is the salt in butter that burns"). The fish is packed in ice in polystyrene boxes (see picture above) so you don't have to be in when it is delivered. They provide fish that is in season, so for example they do not buy our own coastal water plaice during March/April as it is spawning and then out of condition. Fish in a Box also support ‘Tracefish’, a long term project aimed to establish international standards to ensure traceability of seafood from catcher to retailer.

You decide how much fish you require and how you want it prepared. They even sell Smoked Salmon Ice Cream made by Shropshire based Top House Ice Cream. I've bought some, but haven't got round to trying it yet!

I'll finish this post with a picture of our delicious tea tonight, Monkfish with Tomato and White Wine Sauce (fish and recipe from Fish in a Box):
