Park Lane Wine and Deli, Sandbach

Not surprisingly, Park Lane Wine and Deli is on Park Lane. Not the one in London (or the monopoly board) but the one in Sandbach. It's half a mile from the centre, going out on the Crewe Road (the one you used to go on before they built the bypass).

The shop is quite a find, I'm almost glad more people don't know about it as it could get very busy!

The owners, Garnik and Veronik come from the mountainous region of Armenia. To be honest the first time I went into the shop I had to ask where Armenia is.

It's the Armenian influence that makes this shop so interesting. Armenia is landlocked and in the shop you can find foods from all over the region.

There are influences from Turkey, Iran, Greece and Italy and foods from a much wider area.

The bread is baked several times a day, and the croissants are excellent. There's also some very attractive patisserie, including different varieties of baklava.

There's an unusual selection of quality beers, wines and whisky. They have good coffee and very nice biscuits

If your lucky you may be offered an espresso coffee and a piece of Kurdish delight.

The staff are very friendly and will give advice on any ingredients you are not familiar with.

There's a wide selection of unusual ready meals, which can be reheated in your microwave. We've just finished our tea, I've forgotten what it was called, but it contained spinach, mushrooms and cheese and tasted infinitely better than the ready meals you buy in supermarkets.

They also supply restaurants in the area and do outside catering for 6 to 600 people!

I am Armenian and since moving to England I had cravings for some Armenian food, and when i visited this shop I didn`t recognise much armenian there. Yes they did have some delicious things but they were mostley Iranian, Turkish and Greek even italian(thats far from armenia. And the things I went for i didn`t find. Very nice deli but wouldn`t call it armenian food.

I'm not sure is there any matter is some of the food with Turkish origin or with Armenian. May be they should change the name of the shop. It will be more accurate. I love rare places like this one.

The nit-picking Armenian and the one being downright insulting need to know that we locals love the food at this deli. We don't really care about its origins or the politics of the area. These people have made their home in our area and we are the richer for it. The little eatery on the side is always a delight. The deli is well stocked with delicious food and the owners are some of the most hospital, warm people I have ever met.
