Shrewsbury - Deli on the Square

The Deli on the Square has long been a favourite of shoppers in Ludlow and they now have a branch in Shrewsbury as well (but this one's not on the square, but on Fish Street).

They're famous for their mustard, including their own own Shropshire Lad Beer Mustard, and even have another website just for their mustard http://www.justmustard.com!

It's the sort of place where you can get stripey pasta or pickled walnuts and a wide selection of cheese from Shropshire, Herefordshire and further afield.

I bought some brie recently which I could see was nice and ripe. I'm not saying it smelt a little, but we had a seat to ourselves on the crowded Whitchurch Groaner (the local name for the stopping train between Shrewsbury and Crewe). And the brie tasted great.

Another reason for going in to the shop (if one was required) is that you may be able to get a free copy of the excellent Taste magazine http://www.tasteshropshire.com.

Since this post was written the Fish Street Shrewsbury branch of the Deli on the Square has closed.  Happily the main branch in Ludlow is still there.
