Tunstall -

Tunstall is one of the six towns (Hanley, Stoke, Burslem, Tunstall, Longton, and Fenton) collectively known as Stoke on Trent.

Confusingly novelist Arnold Bennett referred to them as the Five Towns, omitting Fenton. To add to the confusion the main shopping centre of this area is Hanley and not Stoke. Tunstall is the birthplace of Robbie Williams.

As oatcakes are sometimes known as the Tunstall Tortilla, it's only right that I should feature an oatcake shop!
The shop in this blog is A H Short just north of the centre of Tunstall. Since writing this (in February 2008)

In the shop there's a nice collection of old postcards of the area mounted on the wall.

Since writing this review it's changed hands and is now trading as May N Mar Laydeez Oatcakes, which is a nice example of the Potteries dialect.
