The Bog

Above is a picture taken from the Long Mynd. It's not a particularly good one, go to Flickr and get properly inspired! The reason for this post is to remind you (if you're not going to Chester Food Festival this weekend), the Shropshire Hills Shuttles start their services on Saturday 22nd March 2008.

There's two routes, one goes from Church Stretton over the Long Mynd and round the Stiperstones and the other goes from Craven Arms via Clun and Bishops Castle to Bridges, where it links up with the other service.

The views are fantastic, find out why this part of Shropshire is called "Little Switzerland" (without the wolves and avalanches)! You can leave the car at home and get to Church Stretton or Craven Arms by train. The minibuses mean that you don't have to do a steep climb (unless you want to) and you can do a linear work instead of a circular walk.

So this is supposed to be a blog about food shops, not walking, so why this post? Well a good walk will burn of some calories, so you can enjoy the excellent food available in this area, but you also must visit the Bog Visitor Centre (the Long Mynd and Stiperstones shuttle will take you to the door). Inside they sell fantastic home made cakes. The excellent scones are called Stiper Scones, they also do Bog Bake and Wild Edric's tart!

The whinberry crumble and whinberry pie served in the Stiperstones Inn is made with whinberries picked from local hills. They also sell jams and pickles.
