Evesham

Evesham Abbey was estimated to be the 3rd largest and most powerful Abbey in England when Henry VIII demolished it in 1540. The building at the top of this post is the Almonry which is next to the site of the great gatehouse of the Abbey. Today there is a touring information centre in the Almonry Heritage Centre.

Situated on the banks of the river Avon, Evesham is the "capital" of the fertile Vale of Evesham.

The Vale of Evesham at its height was second only to Kent as the Garden of England.

Lawrance's Bakery, in the middle of the high street, sells bread and cakes, including traditional items like lardy cake.
