If the shop at the top of this post looks familiar, but you're not even sure where Hadfield is, you may have recognised it as the filming location for Hilary Briss, the butcher in the dark comedy series "The League of Gentlemen". You either love or hate The League of Gentlemen, I think it's brilliant.Hilary Briss (a butcher played by Mark Gatiss) sold "special stuff" for favoured customers. If you've ever watched the series, you probably wouldn't want to go anywhere near his shop.
However J W Mettrick & Son are in a completely different league (sorry about the pun) and have won numerous awards. They sell High Peak Lamb which helps support the special environment of the Peak District National Park. And yes they do make "League of Gentlemen Special Sausages" only these are made with prime pork.
They have another shop in Glossop and also do on-line shopping for people who aren't local.....

As this blog is very much about local shops, it seems only right that I should include a shot of that most famous of all "local shop for local people".However the local shop never existed, and the filming location was actually on the moors above Marsden, which is about 18 miles away from Hadfield (Royston Vasey).
So there's nothing for you there......
