Ombersley - Checketts

Ombersley is an attractive village, which the busy A449 Worcester to Kidderminster road now bypasses. I can recommend lunch in the King's Arms (to the right of the picture above). Dating back to 1411, it was reputed to be King Charles's first stop after fleeing the battle of Worcester in 1651.

Checketts of Ombersley won Butcher of the year 2007 in the Worcestershire Life Awards. They were doing an excellent trade when I called.

Checketts have been trading since 1902. The shop manager, David Checketts, is the fourth generation of Checketts in the business.

They're a member of the elite Guild of Q Butchers and only sell British meat which is mostly bought direct from local farms.

At the end of last year they also opened Checketts Fresh Fish at the rear of Ombersley Wine and Deli next door.
