Barry's Pantry

I was trying to remember whether Alsager is in Cheshire or Staffordshire.
In the end I decided it is in Cheshire (despite the Staffordshire postal address). I was thinking that Barry's Pantry was the only maker of oatcakes in Cheshire, but then I remembered Congleton Oatcakes!

Anyway Barry's Pantry is the most Western producer of oatcakes (unless you know different?).

He's been making oatcakes for over 20 years (and in the catering business for even longer) so he knows what he'd doing!

Possibly the most miserable man I know. I went in this morning had to wait as he tuted and moaned about students ordering food. Then he decided to have an argument with his wife. When I finally placed my order for 36 oatcakes he told me that I should have oredred them yesterday and proceded to moan at me.
I was actually trying to give this man some money!
After more moaning and complaining by him I decided to take my custom elswhere and I suggest you do.

How is this guy still in business? He's never open for service. Opens basically when he can be bothered to drag his lazy backside out of bed which is usually way past half ten in the morning by which time most people have already had their breakfast.

Doesn't open in kids holidays or bank holidays. Like the other poster mentioned he moans and groans about having to serve you and generally doesn't deserve any business whatsoever. I had a sililar issue when ordering 2 dozen plain unfilled oatcakes to take away with me and moaning that I should have ordered them. I'd hardly call that a shipping order. I've given up going there now cos most the time he's never open so by the time i've messed around it's easier to go somewhere else.

he's basically only interested in serving school kids. Most the time he's not open and closes in school holidays. Don't know how opening for 2 hours selling a few oatcakes to teenagers can keep him in business for 20 years cos I'm pretty sure his wife don't do anything other than sit in the back of the shop shouting at him like an episode of Alf Garnet. Shuutt uppp WOMAN!!!

I find him very arrogant and an easy bloke to dislike and anyone who moans when you try to give him business, doesn't deserve to be in business IMO. Wouldn't mind but his oatcakes are like eating cardboard. Even worse than the ones you buy in the shops.

My advice is, go somewhere else or buy some from Tescos and make your own at home.

Agree with other comments. This bloke is so arrogant and rude he doesn't deserve any business. I went in once and tried to make conversation with him but he kept butting over what I was saying cos he was more interested in what HE had to say than listen to his customers. No wonder he had to ask me 3 times what I wanted on my oatcakes. He never listens to anyone and got my order wrong then when I told him it was wrong he said,'come on now, don't mess me about!' like it was MY fault he got it wrong because he wasn't paying attention. He was too busy trying to take the micky out of his customers. Again to echo other comments on here, the guy is seldom open. It's about a 10 minute stroll from our house and by the time i've walked round to find he's shut (yet again) it would have been just as quick to get in the car and drive to Kidsgrove for them. I wouldn't mind so much but his food isn't even nice and the place looks like it needs a good clean. Grease running down the walls and the staff, who I can only imagine must be his wife and daughter, looks like she's allergic to soap and water. The thought of her handling my food with her grubby hands and black fingernails is enough to put me off going there again. I know it gets hot in there but this girl looked and smelled like she hadn't had a bath in months. It was so strong I could smell her over the counter. It put me off so much that after she handed me my oatcakes I walked out and threw them straight in the bin. I've never been back there since.

Known locally by the kids as Barry's Pants due to the fact his oatcakes are like they've been stuffed down his sweaty crotch then deep fried in lard. Truly disgusting things. I don't even know how the bloke has a nerve to all them oatcakes.
Yes I've been there, but on that occasion he seemed civil. Perhaps he liked me as I have a Gloucester/Bristol type accent. Perhaps he thought I might take the carrot and blade of grass out of my mouth I was sucking, moan back at him and throw my pitch fork in his direction OH Arrr Oh Arrr said I.

Come of Barry, cheer up! At a time when folk are out of work and have no job, you should be pleased to have customers, so don't bark at them, you're not a dog!

Maybe ask the wife to pipe down a bit or maybe pop one of your oak cakes in her mouth and ask her to chew on that.

Keep up the griddeling and quit the moaning and groaning. This ain't good publicity for your business me ol' mate.

I Knew Barry when he first opened his oatcake shop which is going back a quite few years now, at the time he was hard working sociable always polite and never rude to customers so reading these comments makes me feel a little sad that he has now let his standards slip which is no way to run a successful business.

I've been In today for the first time ever and found Barry hilarious...he was very attentive and helpful and even made me a coffee whilst I was waiting so for me he gets top marks. I'm sure if his service was so bad he wouldn't have the massive queue of customers he had this morning...all of which were happy and smiling and joining in the banter...just wish I got the name of the cute lad with the temporary tag I'd say keep it up Barry....you serve your village well
