Eat Your Heart Out

Felicity Lawrence's latest book, Eat Your Heart Out: Why the Food Business Is Bad for the Planet and Your Health is published today.

I've not had chance to read it yet but have read previews in the Times and the Guardian. In the book she questions why a handful of giant food companies have vast control over what we eat.

Did you know in 1970, a hundred grams of an average chicken contained less than 9 grams of fat, but today it contains nearly 23 grams of fat?

Apparently the iron content of milk appears to have dropped by more than 60% in 60 years. Milk also appears to have lost 2% of its calcium and 21% of its magnesium.

I learnt a lot from her previous book, "Not on the label" and will certainly be reading this latest book.
