The Battle of Shrewsbury

The Battle of Shrewsbury was fought on this day, July 21 in 1403, at a place now called Battlefield just north of Shrewsbury. The battle was waged by an army led by the King, Henry IV, and a rebel army led by Henry "Hotspur" Percy from Northumberland.
Both sides suffered tremendous casualties, many as the result of the dramatic impact of the use of the English longbow. There were several thousand archers in each force and archers were reputed to be able to fire 12 arrows a minute into the enemy ranks.
Battlefield 1403 is a farm shop and visitor centre. The archers, pictured above, aren't normally there, but there is a permanent small exhibition. It's a pleasant short walk, through what were battlefields, to Battlefield Church.
The beef and lamb are reared on their own farm, part of the Albrighton Estate. All other meat is sourced locally from within 15 miles of the shop. Next to the shop is a café.

We visited earlier in November and are going back today. Fantastic place, really good food in the cafe, and well priced excellent meat etc. in the shop. A well thought out place, with good accessability for wheel chairs etc, although the shop is on a slope, it didn't cause many problems. Staff very welcoming. Hope it stays as good.
