Holt - J T Vernon

There are five place in the UK called Holt (and places called Holt in Australia, Holland, Germany, Norway and the USA). The one I'm talking about today is an attractive town just in Wales. There's a fine medieval sandstone bridge which links Holt with Farndon which is over the river Dee in Cheshire.

Not far from the medieval market cross in the centre is J T Vernon. J T Vernon was the great grandfather of Andrew Vernon who now runs the food hall. They're famous for their sausage and have won numerous awards. They also have frozen ready meals and sausage rolls. The butchers are at one end of the shop, the delicatessen is in the middle and there's a café at the other end.

They sell
Woodlands Ice Cream from nearby Asney Park Farm. The vanilla contains their own whole milk, fresh double cream, free range egg yolks, sugar and vanilla and nothing else!

Unfortunately news has just come in that Vernon's has gone into liquidation. Sad day really.

Thanks for letting me know about that. I gather they're still trading at present and hoping to sell the business as a going concern.
