Fortune's Kippers is on the East side of Whitby.
When you get to the bottom of the 199 steps, just follow your nose! The smoke house is next door to the shop. Established in 1872, it's been a family business for five generations. Two brothers, Derek and Barry Brown, run the business and they've received praise from Rick Stein, Gary Rhodes and the Two Fat Ladies and many others besides.
Besides kippers, they also do paté, smoked haddock, smoked salmon and smoked bacon.
