Whitby

Whitby is a photographer's paradise and a great place for a holiday.

As a child we used to count (as we climbed) the 199 steps which lead from Church Street in the old town, up to the church of St. Mary.

On the East Cliff are the ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey.

On the West Cliff there's a statue of Captain James Cook, who sailed from the town, and a whalebone arch, commemorating the once large whaling industry.

Bram Stoker stayed in Whitby whilst writing his famous novel - Dracula.

Whitby's a great place for food. There's Elizabeth Botham's bakery, Fortune's Kippers and, of course, fish and chips.
