Alex Cairn's shop used to be a butchers (Peter Dawson's), but has been an oatcake shop for the last 30 years. When I called at the weekend Alex had been at work since midnight (they open from Thursday to Sunday at 4:00a.m.)!
This shop is definitely one of my favourites. They're good oatcakes (made with free range eggs) and they use Joseph Heler's cheese. Garlic lovers may be interested to know they offer garlic mushrooms (as well as ordinary) as one of the fillings and they even do garlic oatcakes as well as plain!
