Dore Delicatessen

Dore is about 6 miles south west of the centre of Sheffield, on the edge of the Peak District. As a child I remember being taken (as a treat) on the train from nearby Totley to Grindelford, through the longest main line railway tunnel within England, and walking back over the hill!
If your planning a hike, Dore Delicatessen would be an excellent place to get some provisions! David and Catherine Trickett are clearly passionate about producing good food and my photos don't do their produce justice. You can buy really nice sandwiches and wraps, Lune Valley pies, Stilton and port pate and much more besides. Cheeses include Yorkshire Tasty and Wensleydale. They sell kippers from Mackenzies Yorkshire Smokehouse.

They also make and sell Catherine's Choice range of additive and gluten free foods. This includes chutneys & relishes, jams, jellies & conserves, mustards, fruit cheeses & curds, marinades & sauces and wine vinegars. In the last 3 years they have entered their products into the Great Taste Awards and were awarded three Gold, seven Silver and two Bronze awards.

Some shops featured in this blog I would visit if I was in the area. This one I would make a significant detour to go to!

p.s. I called yesterday (11/04/09) and found the shop was closed for renovation :-( and under new ownership.  Reports please!

As far as I know Catherine's Choice is still trading.
