Eddisbury Fruit Farm

Today is Apple Day.  Did you know that the record for the longest unbroken apple peel is 52.51m (172ft 4in)!

We're very luck in Cheshire to have two really good fruit farms where you can buy apples.  Today I'm covering Eddisbury Fruit Farm which is situated on the edge of the delightful Delamere Forest.

Apple varieties for sale when I called this week were Bramley Seedling, Cox Orange Pippin, Foxes Delight, Howgate Wonder, Ingrid Marie, Jona-go-red, Kidd's Orange Red, Lord Lamborne, Red Devil, Saturn, Sparturn, and Sunset.  A nice touch is that they supply a small piece of paper with information about each variety and it's orgin in the shop.

They also sell pick your own pears, plums and soft fruit (see their website for what's in season). you can buy apple juice (grown, pressed and bottled at Eddisbury Fruit Farm), Cheshire cider (made from their own apples).  The cider is not my favourite (I don't think they use any proper cider apples), but I like their apple juice.  New for this year are fruit liqueurs (made from 100% Cheshire fruit).

There's also a café serving the usual items and (if you've not had enough of apples) their own apple juice, hot apple juice & cinnamon or hot apple juice & ginger.

Since writing this review, the farm shop closed in February 2014 (see here for details).

However the apple juice business has now been taken over by Wendy Merrick trading as Ollie's Orchard, and you can buy their juice in local farm shops, farmers' markets and food festivals.
