Market Drayton - Gill's Puddings

Going out of Market Drayton, on the Shrewsbury Road towards Müller Dairy, is Gill's Puddings. This business is run by Kim and Gill Smith. Gill's parents used to run Bennett's farmhouse restaurant (sadly no longer trading) where I had one of the nicest meals I've ever had.
This business specialises in making finest quality hand crafted deserts. They supply hotels, restaurants, pubs, coffee shops etc, but the shop is open to retail customers on Wednesday to Saturday (10:00am-4:00pm apart from Thursdays when they close at 2:30pm).

Their range includes cheesecakes, roulades, trifles, tortes, tarts and terrines. They also do cakes, sauces and coulis. Not surprisingly, they won first place in the desserts category at this year’s Heart of England Fine Foods Diamond Awards.

It's mainly puddings, but I bought a bacon and cheese tart which looked nothing special but tasted fantastic. The dark chocolate truffle torte and citron tart that I also bought were consumed before I'd got chance to get my camera out!

Gill's puddings are the best I've ever tasted, maybe a slightly biased view!

Try the apricot and lavender tart, sounds strange but the flavours are amazing
