A traditional town like Hereford is bound to have a good market. The market siyuated in High Town near to the old house, has a fine clock tower and is in a grade 2 listed building. It's called the Buttermarket. it was first opened in 1860, used to deal exclusively with dairy produce. It's now got a wider variety of stall holders. Phillips and Preece butchers make their own faggots on the premises:
There's also Mailes pork butcher who also sell faggots and pork brawn as well as free range eggs:
If you haven't got your cheese from the Mousetrap, there's Mr Wilson's fine cheeses:
My favourite stand was D J Benjamin and Sons, fishmongers:
The fish was fresh and reasonably cheap. I'd never hear of a fish called Panga before, so decided to Google it! The BBC here told me it was a good cod substitute but this site told me not to eat it! Anyway I didn't buy any Panga because it was the end of the day and the fresh mackerel was half price!
