Cranstons Cumbrian Food Hall is seconds away from Junction 40 of the M6, just before you get properly into the attractive market town of Penrith.
It's a family firm, founded in 1914. They've got stores in Allendale, Brampton, Carlisle, Hexham and another smaller shop in the centre of Penrith. They've won numerous awards and I'm not surprised, we had some very nice lamb from there. If you're lucky you may be able to get salt marsh lamb from Richard Irving’s and Mike Waning's Anthorn Farm on the shores of the Solway.
As Penrith was once the capital of Cumbria, they naturally sell Cumberland Sausage. It's usually served in coils - but I've never seen this size before!
The shop is full of good local food items (including fudge from the Toffee Shop just down the the road).
