Bentham

Bentham (or should I say Low and High Bentham) is a small town in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, but almost in Lancashire and not far from the lovely Trough of Bowland.  You can get there by train, with a direct service from town and cities like Leeds, Lancaster, Morecambe, and Brief Encounter's Carnforth.

It's got two good butchers and two good bakers.  I didn't go looking for candle stick makers, but I did get a phone splitter in the hardware shop for a third of the cost that I'd recently paid in B&Q.  Wednesday is market day, and a farmers' market takes place in Bentham Town Hall on the first Saturday of the month.
Barwise Bakery hand-makes bread, cakes, biscuits and savouries.  Many of the recipes have been handed down and are over 50 years old.   They also sell wholefoods, deli products and hampers.
