Chestnut Meats

Chestnut Meats is run by Marnie and Tim Dobson, in a nice part of rural Cheshire, just off the Nantwich to Wrexham road. The main enterprise is goats - bred for meat. I find some people in the UK have a curious attitude about eating goat meat. My view is that if you're going to eat meat, try goats meat. It's healthier than chicken - goat meat is low in fat and cholesterol and high in iron.

As I walked to the shop I could see some very happy goats, animal welfare is a priority on this farm.
It's only a small shop and at present mainly open on Fridays, but you can buy their products at some Cheshire Farmers Markets or online.
Besides goat meat they also do beef and rare breed pork. They'll give you advice on cooking. Because goat chops are so low in fat they're best baked in the oven (with a bit of garlic and olive oil), rather than grilled. They also do frozen goat curry, which you can serve at home with rice and peas for a Caribbean meal. The Chorizo sausage is very popular. If you ask, they'll give you a recipe card for a Lentil and Chorizo Stew (with butternut squash) which is both healthy and tasty.
It's excellent meat, no kidding (groan)!
