Legges of Bromyard is a superb shop, and worth a significant detour to visit. There's a delicatessen and bakery products, good fruit and vegetables and they sell their own free range pork and organic eggs.
They have their own farm Shortwood Farm, their own butchers (apparently each butcher takes 3 years to train) and what isn't produced by themselves is sourced locally where possible. For instance the steak in their steak and ale pie is sourced from their own cattle and the ale is from a local brewery.
We had some excellent free range duck from them. Anthony Legge is passionate about what he does. He recommended a Bromyard Brie to me, which I kept out of the fridge before I tried it as I didn't want a bland supermarket brie experience!
The Bromyard Brie was excellent (I could also have chosen Channel Island Brie or Somerset Brie). Other carefully chosen cheeses included a Hereford Hop (a creamy cheese wrapped in hops), Elgar Mature made a stone's throw from the birthplace of Edward Elgar, Stinking Bishop and Single Gloucester (made from full cream milk from the morning milking, and skimmed milk from the evening milking). They also sell local cider to go with the cheese.
