Marple

Canal lovers will love, or hate Marple! I say love because the beautiful Peak Forest canal goes over the River Goyt on the Marple aqueduct. It was opened in 1800 and is nearly 30 metres higher than the river and a great place for a walk. I say hate because there's then 16 locks as the canal climbs 65.2 metres from the level of the Macclesfield canal.
If that's given you an appetite, there's plenty of good food shops and cafés in Marple.
At a time when many places are loosing their greengrocers, Marple has still got two.
There's also a Food and Drink Festival on 14th -19th September 2009.
