A tale of two breweries

At the top of Bishop’s Castle is the Three Tuns Brewery:

It's a Grade II listed Victorian four-storey brewery, situated next door to (you've guessed it) the Three Tuns Inn. It was built as a tower brewery to utilise gravity to convey the ingredients down through the floors and the different brewing processes. A brewing licence was first granted here in 1642 and it's claimed to be the oldest working brewery premises in Britain.

At the other end of town, by the fine parish church with it's Norman tower, is the Six Bells brewery. The Six Bells is a former coaching inn. It's brewery was closed down in the early 1900's, but was restarted in 1997 by "Big Nev". Nev Richards comes from a family that has been brewing for four generations. They only use the best quality malt and hops in their recipes, avoiding the use of added sugars and processed ingredients.

There's another four pubs in the town, but if you want to try them all you can get the by public transport. At this time of the year you can use the Shropshire Hills Shuttles and combine it with a walk if you wish. There's also a beer festival in Bishop's Castle in July.

Thank-You so much for sharing all this great information. Do you know much about the food shops in the Lymes Regis area?

It's been a while since I was there. I've heard good reports of the Good Food Store, and Town Mill Cheesemonger and The Old Watch House (fishmonger) in Lyme Regis.

It's also only 5 or 6 miles to Axminster, where TV celebrity Hugh Fearnley–Whittingstall has a shop.
