Fife Fine Foods of Leicester used to be called Henry Walker. Henry Walker was a pork butcher who moved from Mansfield to Leicester in the 1880's. He made good sausage and pork pies, unlike some of the competition. According to the London News in 1880 "the Celebrated Leicester Pork pie have become too celebrated and in Leicester and its neighbourhood will not be thought of for some time without a shudder"!
By 1945 meat was so scarce that Henry branched out and began cooking slices of potato. Now Walkers crisps currently makes 10 million bags of crisps per day!
A Scottish company, Fife Fine Foods, bought up the Walkers butchers stores chain from Dewhursts in 2006.
