Conwy

If you're on the A55 heading for Anglesey these days you go in a tunnel under the River Conwy instead of over the River Conwy on Thomas Telford's suspension bridge. That would be a shame as you could miss the fine town of Conwy with its 13th century castle:
and the smallest house in Great Britain:
It's a compact town with old buildings like Plas Mawr, an Elizabethan town house and Aberconwy House:
a 14th Century merchant's house, now owned by the National Trust.

There's two bakeries in the town, Popty Conwy Bakery which does home-made bread and Barabrith:
and on the High Street there's a branch of Tan Lan bakery which is based in Llanrwst:
There's also Conwy Mussels and an excellent butchers which I'll cover separately. There's a Taste of Conwy initiative which gives a guide to food producers in the area, and on the last Friday of the month there's a Farmers' Market at the excellent RSPB Resevere at Llandudno Junction.
