Hathersage is an attractive Derbyshire village, 10 miles from Sheffield. Little John (as in Robin Hood stories) is said to be buried here. Charlotte Bronte visited Hathersage in 1845 and used North Lees Hall, an Elizabethan manor house nearby, as the house where Mrs Rochester jumped from the roof to her death.
As a teenager I used to enjoy walking and climbing on Stanage Edge, just above Hathersage.
I went to Hathersage on the Hope Valley Folk Train, where musicians play music on the train to and from Manchester and also in the Little John Hotel in Hathersage. Sadly it was cancelled on the day I went (due to bad weather?) so I simply went on the Snow Train.
Nevertheless I had a very nice beer in the Little John Hotel and also visited Coleman's Deli:
You can sit inside (or on a better day, outside) and sample their food. The deli is managed by Jim Mothersele, who was a senior chef at Chatsworth.
