The Hawkshead Relish Company

There has always been a lot of rum and spices used in Cumbrian cooking, spices used to be imported from the West Indies to Cumbrian ports. The Hawkshead Relish Company makes chutney, relishes, jams, and marmalades and much more besides. They started off with their Westmorland chutney, which was made using all the spices that were being imported into Hawshead via the wool trade (Hawkshead was once one of the main woollen trading towns). You can now buy many other traditional Lakeland specialities here, like pickled damsons, Cumberland sauce and rum or brandy butters.

They're made in a 16th century restored cruck barn, just south of Hawkshead. You can buy them from their shop in The Square at Hawkshead. They now also have stockists over the world or you can also buy on-line.
