Whalley - Food by Breda Murphy


Food by Breda Murphy is conveniently next to the railway station in Whalley. Not surprisingly, it's founded by Breda Murphy, who comes from County Carlow in southern Ireland. She went to Ireland’s world-renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School, and then became its youngest ever teacher. Breda worked in top kitchens in Ireland and London and then became head chef at The Inn at Whitewell before starting this business. I'm not sure how or why Breda ended up in Whalley, in the Ribble Valley, maybe it's because this area is getting quite a reputation for good food.
The delicatessen sells Irish produce, wines and chocolates. The best bit, however, is the home made food and cakes. There's scones:

or you can take your purchases home and cook them yourself. We tried the fish pie, which has quite a reputation:
