Mansfield - Babushka

If my recent posts about my visit to Russia have made you want to try Russian food (without the ridiculous Visa charges), I've found where you can buy it in Mansfield!  Babushka sell a wide range of food and drink from Russia and all over Eastern Europe - Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Estonia and more besides.
It's a friendly shop and the staff will explain what the food is, if you're not sure what you are buying.

There's an interesting range of bread including Latvian Rudzu Maize (rye bread), wholemeal Lithuanian bread from "Vilniaus duona"- Lithuania's oldest bakery and black rye bread.

You could smell the dark bread in the middle of the picture below, even though it was in sealed plastic bags!
There's some interesting pickles:

I'd not seen tomatoes pickled in this way before:

You can buy meals, made by the owners, to eat in their café:
When I called choices included soup (pea, lentil or borsch) and mushrooms fried in creamy sauce on rye bread or pelmini (Russian dumplings).
These frozen biezpiena (chocolate coated flavoured curd cheese) were popular in our house.
There's soft drinks (including lemonade which I thought was in a green bottle but it was the drink that was that colour!) and a selection of beers from Eastern Europe:
You can even buy a Russian hat if you want to look the part:
There's lots of other interesting things for home-sick Russians and curious Brits! There's Russian dolls some had John Lennon on, others had Vladimir Putin on!

To round off the experience there's Russian vodka and Russian Shampanskoye.
