Kirkbymoorside

Kirkbymoorside is billed as "The Gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors", it's smaller and quieter than Pickering which is 7 miles down the road to Scarborough.  Apparently there's a debate about the correct spelling but it is usually spelled with the 'k'.

It's a great place to go walking (see here for a nice walk).
Wednesday is the best day to go (unless you're trying to drive through!), when it's the market.  The market started in 1254 and is still going strong today.  There's a good range of stalls on the cobbled streets:
from fruit and vegetables to fish:
I debated whether these chicken should be allowed on a food blog, but decided they deserved a place!
Harker's sell dry cure bacon and hams, and Yorkshire Wolds sausages:
There's also cheese and dairy produce:
K. Cees sell home baking and cooking and describe their produce as "Food as food should be, at prices anyone can afford"!
Try and get there early, Perns Patisserie were almost sold out by the time I'd got there:
Besides the market is worth a trip down the road to the stand selling cakes in aid of St Mary, Lastingham, which is famous for its unique apsidical Norman crypt.

It's also worth popping into Kirkbymoorside's Memorial Hall market, where you can buy very reasonably priced home baking/produce and home-made pickles and jams.
