Lucy's of Ambleside

Lucy Nicholson started this famous deli 21 years ago when her oldest daughter became ill with leukaemia.  She needed to buy special ingredients for her daughter and decided to start a deli to sell food she'd found hard to get.

Lucy now runs Lucy's on a Plate (a café/restaurant), Lucy4 (a wine bar and bistro), Lucy's Inside Out (outside catering) Deli t'dor (mail order) and Lucy Cooks (a rather fine cookery school), as well as this deli!
There's a good selection of freshly bake bread:
and at the back of the shop a particularly good deli counter.
Like all good food shops there's items to taste, like cheese and Lucy's orange chutney.
There's savoury snacks:
but Lucy clearly has a sweet tooth.  Her café this year won the Remy Martin Coeur de Cognac award (by Harden's Guides) for the best puddings in the UK.

I was amused to see this sign "Cakes to keep Cumbria Curvy"!
There's a particularly good range of gluten free food, like this apple and cinnamon cake (but you would never know it was gluten free just by tasting it).

Since writing this review this business has now closed
