Staveley - Lucy Cooks

Staveley is where the rivers Kent and Gowan join, at the start of the Kentmere Valley.  On the railways, it's the station before Windermere and you can get off here and hire a bike (from the UK's largest bike shop) to explore the Lake District.

Staveley Mill Yard is also a surprisingly good place for food lovers.  It's the home of Lucy Cooks:
Lucy Cooks is Lucy Nicholson's cookery school (see previous post on Lucy's of Ambleside).
At Lucy Cooks they offer demo and dine evenings with food cooked on an Aga:
and upstairs there's a wide range of courses on offer such as Cumbrian Food, Gluten Free Food, Puddings, Desserts and Patisserie, Sushi cookery, Tapas and Mezze, and Vegan Food or Vegetarian Food.
If you've just taken your son/daughter to college, I noticed that earlier this year they were doing student cookery courses.  A good cook will never be short of friends!

Staveley Mill Yard is now the home of the Hawkshead BreweryWilf's Café and in my next two posts I'll cover a maker of fine preserves and an excellent bread maker.
