I've not managed to get to the South West of England since I started this blog, so was looking forward to making a start whilst on a recent trip to Exeter. I struggled to find good food shops in the city, but was delighted when I found Darts Farm. It's a superb place just 5 miles south east of Exeter - and not far from the M5.
Darts Farm started off as a hut at the bottom of Ronald Dart's field in the 1970's and has now grown into one of the biggest (and best) farm shops I've ever visited.
There's a good selection of own and locally produced fruit and vegetables with their own potatoes,

and pumpkins attractively displayed.
There's over 100 different cheeses, many of which are local. There's an on site butchers selling Exmoor lambs and Devon beef:
There's also the Fish Shed where you can buy fish caught and landed within 12 hours from Lyme Bay.
There's home-baked cakes, cookies and brownies:
and to wash it all down, there's a particularly good off licence selling local beer and cider:
Chris Coles has been making cider at Darts Farm since 1989.

When we're not shopping for good food, my wife and I enjoy wild bird spotting. Darts Farm is over-looking the beautiful Clyst Valley and the RSPB's Bowling Green reserve and there's even a RSPB shop on the premises:
