Melbourne - Chantry Farm Shop

Part of the excitement of visiting Chantry Farm Shop is the journey there!  You'll probably come over Swarkestone Bridge (also known as the Stanton Causeway).  The causeway is the longest stone bridge in England.  It was built in the 13th century (with 18th century additions by Thomas Harrison at the north end). It is just under a mile long and has 17 arches.
Chantry Farm Shop is less than 2 miles away, just north of Melbourne.  Melbourne is a Georgian market town which was mentioned in the Domesday Book and indirectly gave its name to the other Melbourne in Australia.
Chantry farm is one of Rick Stein's food heroes and once you're inside the shop it's easy to see why.
There's good fruit and vegetables:
and a small range of carefully selected cheeses.  But it's the butchery counter that is the main reason for visiting.  The lamb comes from their own flock of 200 north country mule ewes, which graze the meadows beside the River Trent.  The beef is from Longhorn cattle which graze on traditional wild flower meadows and unimproved pastures.  The pork is free-range from Packington Pork
