Derby - Bluebells

When I arrived at Bluebells Farm Shop it was rather busier then I'd expected!  I'd come to try their hot cross bun ice-cream:
I'd first heard of Geoff and Rosemary Brown, when they were runners up in the BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming awards in 2009.  It's a family run business on a working farm, and they make their own ice-cream and also have tea rooms where you can try Derbyshire honey cake, Derbyshire fruit loaf and other homemade cakes.

The shop was so full of customers it was hard to take pictures, so Rosemary suggested I contact Clare and Rachel at Monkhouse Marketing, as they had some nice pictures:
As you can see, their visitors include the Prince of Wales!  They made a special bread and butter ice-cream for his visit.
It's easy to see why  Prince Charles was attracted to this business, there's a big emphasis on local produce, with local cheeses, eggs, honey, jams, pickles and vegetables for sale.  They are beginning to introduce their own home reared beef, and also sell locally produced pork, lamb and venison.

They're continually developing their range of ice-cream flavours, they recently made a rhubarb fruit ice, which was very popular.  I tried their liquorice ice-cream, which sounds wrong but tastes rather nice.  They've also just started doing ice-cream gateaux and ice-cream chocolates:
So if you want to celebrate the Royal Wedding this week, with ice-cream as tasted by the Prince of Wales, why not pop over to Bluebells?
