Manchester - On The Eighth Day

On The Eighth Day is a democratically run, worker-controlled co-operative just south of Manchester city centre.  It's been trading since the 1970, selling vegetarian or vegan, cruelty-free and fairly traded produce.
As you would expect, there's fruit and vegetables:
and a wide range of other produce:
For vegetarians and vegans who still want to eat something which resembles meat, there's chorizo, garlic sausage, pepperoni,  beef, ham and turkey style products from Cheatin Meat
Frozen food has been selected with the same care as other items in the shop:
I had an interesting discussion with 2 assistants about residues from plastic bags in frozen foods.

To wash it all down there's tea from Make Us A Brew:
There's a good selection of wine and beer:
Organic beers include Manchester bitter, made by the Marble Brewery:
There's even organic gin (with or without sloes).
Down stairs there's a café
If you enjoy what you eat here,
there's some recipes here.

With pasties, rolls and wraps like this:
and cakes like this:
who said food for vegans is boring?

It's nice to shop somewhere where the people are passionate about what you eat, and how it affects both yourself and the environment.  It makes far more sense to return glass for reuse:
than to grind it up to recycle (or worse still put it into the bin and landfill).
