Stoke - German Cheesecake

This blog likes traditional and local food.  But it also occasionally likes something completely different!  So when I found a lady was selling authentic German cheesecake in Weston Coyney (a suburb of Stoke-on-Trent and home of one of my favourite oatcake shops) I went straight away, to try some!
Whilst we Brits have tea and biscuits, the Germans have Kaffee und Kuchen - or coffee and cake and these baked cheesecakes are typical of what you might have.  They're made by Petra Cox, a German lady who now lives in the area and whose family have been making cheesecake for generations.  She's very keen to promote Anglo-German relations and also provides tuition for people wanting to improve their German.

The cheesecakes are surprisingly healthy, as they are made from quark soft cheese which is virtually fat free, and have much less sugar than some of the frozen cheesecakes we're used to over here.  They're also suitable for coeliacs and vegetarians.  Like all good food shops you can try before you buy.
At present they're only available in North Staffordshire (at Craft Fairs in Weston Coyney or local pickup/delivery) but Petra is hoping to arrange national distribution soon.
