When chef Dave Mooney and his wife Jane (who before she married Dave was Jane Casson, and was a project manager at Made in Cheshire) open a café, you know it's going to be good!
It's situated in the Chester Visitor Centre, just opposite the Chester Amphitheatre. As you go in, past a rather fine mural, you'll notice that the menu features some of the best local produce:
You can pop in for a drink (try their hot chocolate) and a cake (they sell Gorge’us cakes from Bebbington):
or try a Cheshire Taste Cheese Plank (three of the county's best cheeses served with bread or crackers and Clippy’s Apple and Plum chutney), or their home made soup:
They also sell jam from Find Inspiration in Food who buy seasonal fruit and vegetables from local specialist growers and farmers, and last year won an award for the recruitment and employment of disabled and disadvantaged people.
Since writing this review Cheshire Taste has closed. Dave and Jane Mooney have opened Legends Cafe on the A556 at Delamere, and run The Lord Binning at Kelsall, The Old Sessions House in Knutsford and the soon to be opened Hanging Gate at Weaverham.
