The Bear Co-op in Todmorden is less than 10 miles from Toad Lane in Rochdale, where the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society started what became a world-wide co-operative movement.
It's situated in a lovely, 150 year old building.
Downstairs there's a shop:
which sells local bread, fruit and vegetables, and items like organic wheat grass:
and fruit like these locally grown plums:
Upstairs there's a really nice café:
which does vegetarian dishes (vegan and speciality diets catered for):
and home-made cakes which taste fantastic:
back downstairs there's also wholefoods, herbs, herbal and homeopathic medicines:This being Todmorden, there's an incredible range of edibles at The Bear, like blackcurrant or gooseberry jam or lime and ginger marmalade:
I really like this shop. The staff are friendly and helpful and the café is just great. The Bear co-op also does outreach work and I wasn't surprised that Incredible Edible Todmorden has it meetings in the Bear. When you leave you just have the feeling that the world is a better place...
