As it's officially the season to be jolly, I thought I'd better tell you about the Beer Dock in Crewe. It's hard to describe the Beer Dock precisely, it's an off-license that sells a superb range of beers, but it's also a micro pub so you can try beers in the shop.
It's very handy to get to - it's situated on Nantwich Road in Crewe, just 10 minutes walk from Crewe Station:
Inside the shop, it's a beer lovers paradise:
There's over 600 different beers, carefully selected from mainly small independent brewers.
They're grouped by origin, so as you go through the door there's beers like this Wild Blackberry Mild:
from Off Beat Brewery - which is just a mile down the road. We're fortunate to have numerous small breweries in this area, who all make interesting quality beers.
If you need any help, Sam McGarrigle (the owner) is a fount of knowledge. He trained at University to be a planner, but was unable to get a Proper Job:
which I'm pleased about - as otherwise he might not have a started the Beer Dock. There's also lagers (if you don't like beer), and Lambic style Belgian fruit beers, and there's a small selection of good ciders. The ciders include Wrenbury cider - the "Orchard in a glass" which I used to win the Dabbers Dish competition with.
I always enjoy coming here, and looking at the witty labels. I'll finish this post with a a picture of there is Noel in Christmas (from the www.thehopstudio.co.uk)
and wish you all a very Hoppy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
