Richmond Farmers' Market

Today I'm talking about the Richmond Farmers' Market that's in Surrey (not to be confused with the one in Yorkshire - and quite a few across the Herring Pond). It's in Heron Square, not far from the River Thames.

It's quite different to Twickenham Farmers' market.  They 're both held on a Saturday - Richmond starts a little later, so you can do both if you wish.

Flour Power Bakery sell their organic bread:
and Breadren, which apparently comes from the word "Brethren" and means "close friend or man", were selling their eclectic range of bakery items and street food:
It's a good place to come, if you like something different.  There were quite a few flat breads:
This stall was selling Bourek and fresh green mint tea:
You could buy also buy Baklawa, Besboussa and Makrout Ellouz (Algerian almond cookies):
Food on the Hill have a butchers shop and smoke house.  They were selling Scotch eggs and sausage rolls:
and their steak and kidney pies:
which won Gold in this year's British Pie Awards.

sell a wide range of organic vegetables and salads.

Julia's Inventions had some great sausage rolls:
including these rather fine pork and smoked chilli ones:
I spent quite a while chatting with this girl from Marsh Produce:
There was a great range of produce from their farm in Kent, including their pork, lamb and chicken sausages:
and some good beef:
Doukan were selling their Moroccan food:
Bianca Marton make luxury dairy free chocolate truffles:
They're suitable for vegans and it's nice to know that you don't have to compromise on quality just because you don't wish to eat milk or cream.

We particularly liked their coconut fudge:
which is also suitable for people who are dairy intolerant.  They've completely rethought the recipe, and use dark brown muscovado sugar and coconut fats - milk, cream and oil.

Last, but not least, Jill Anderson sells wonderful wheat and gluten free brownies:
In front of me in the queue was Bamber Gascoigne.  I was going to ask him about what he though of Mark Gatiss's portrayal of him in the film Starter for 10, but I got distracted by these brownies with roasted salted almonds and honey!
