I love proper cider, and I love Bristol, so I couldn't go wrong visiting the Bristol Cider Shop! They sell over 100 varieties of cider and perry here.
All their ciders are made within 50 miles of the shop, by small independent producers. I'm pleased that cider has become fashionable again - but am concerned that some of the big manufacturers are selling us watered down rubbish made with glucose and goodness knows what else (see here for more information).
In the Bristol Cider Shop you can buy real cider, made with 100% apple juice and natural yeasts, with nothing added by the maker apart from love! Producers include Tom Oliver, who's perry I think is the best in the world.
They also sell cider brandy, and like most good food shops, let you try before you buy -- because they know that if you have a taste you'll buy more!
In case you don't think cider is a food, they also sell foods like Rose Farm pickled onions in Somerset cider, apple and harvest chutneys, mustard with Somerset cider, and sweet orange with Somerset cider marmalade.
They also sell other cider related items, like books and T shirts. I was proud to wear my Bristol Cider Shop T shirt at their cider and sausage festival earlier this year (they also do cider dating). Their next event is on 13th September 2014, when they're holding a cider festival in the beautiful Arnos Vale Victorian cemetery!
Please note that since writing this review, the Bristol Cider Shop has moved from 7 Christmas Steps, and is now on Wapping Wharf. The best post code for Sat Navs is BS1 4RN.
