Richmond - Gelateria Danieli

After I'd first visited Italy I can remember thinking how appalling most ice-cream is over here! Well Carlo Vagliasindi comes from Sicily and now recreates delicious gelato in London. Carlo's partner, Bridget, is a nutritionist and health expert - so special diets are also well catered for. 

Their first shop, on Brewers Lane in Richmond, opened nearly 10 years ago and sells 24 different flavours: 

They've been so successful that they now have a branch in Bentalls Department store in Kingston, a Gelateria on Shaftesbury Avenue, and a branch just around the corner from the Brewers Lane shop on The Green, which also specialises in chocolates: 

They make about 25 different flavours of sorbet, 67 varieties of ice-cream and 9 different frozen yoghurts. The flavours are rotated in the shops and include Wild Strawberry (Fragolina) sorbet, Chocolate & Chilli or Chocolate & Violet Cream ice-cream and Acai, Banana & Passion Fruit frozen yoghurt.

The gelato is lower in fat than traditional ice-cream - but still tastes delicous. Enjoy!
