I was delighted to find a superb farm shop just around the corner from where I was staying, whilst on a walking holiday in Derbyshire earlier this year.
This shop is keeping up with the supermarkets, and here you can do a one stop shop for your food and drink requirements - only in a nicer setting. Co-owner Steve Croot is a passionate grower of fresh herbs, salads and vegetables:
so much food is either grown here or sourced from local farmers. Earlier this year, Steve Croot was named Derbyshire Local Food Hero 2014.
There's a proper butchers section, and they will also do speciality cuts if asked in advance.
Their sausages are made with Packington free-range pork. Their sausages and meat products won ten awards at the Regional Pork Product Excellence Awards Roadshow this year
There's also a very nice café (The Shires Eatery) run by Kay Croot:
which has become a destination in its own right for many of their regulars. There's some nice pictures of shire horses on the wall:
I had to smile when I left, as Steve was about to go on holiday to the West Country. Guess what we talked about? Good farm shops to visit, this great farm shop is determined to get even better!
If I haven't given you enough reasons for visiting, it's less than 4 miles from the magnificent Keddleston Hall so visiting both would make a great day out.

They sell Derbyshire oatcakes:
and over 60 cheeses:
including this, blast from the past, Sage Derby:
Including these hand made pork pies and huntsman pork pies:
and there's even more to pies to choose from:
I was rather amused by their beers:
with varities like Shire Ale "with a bit of a kick", Cow Juice "not one for your breakfast cereal" and Ewe Drink "this beer will give you a woolly head":
which would make great gifts.

There's a childrens play area outside:
Farnah House Farm has been home to Shire horses for around 45 years, and has bred many award-winning animals. I'm not a horsey person -but think these majestic animals are wonderful:I had to smile when I left, as Steve was about to go on holiday to the West Country. Guess what we talked about?
