Severn & Wye Smokery

I've always thought the Forest of Dean is an exciting area which I'd love to explore more. On the edge of the Forest of Dean (between the river Severn and the river Wye) is Severn & Wye Smokery:
The smokery has an exciting shop, that I can't recommend too highly.

This business started off producing smoked wild salmon and smoked eel from the  river Severn and the river Wye.  They use traditional smoking methods using their own wood chips, and now supply the top stores in London as well as exporting all over the world.  They now produce far more than just smoked wild salmon and smoked eel.

One of their smoked fish platters:
would make the perfect starter for a special meal.

I love fish, but worry about sustainabilty. This business shares my passion for environmental issues, they produce their own electricity, they've planted hundres of trees, and have MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) approval, so they sell a range of MSC certified fresh and smoked fish products.

Their fish display is stunning:
Clive Rowlands, who the looks after the fresh fish counter, has over 45 years of experience.
Displays will change, depending on what's in season. When I called they had large whole gurnard and lemon sole from Brixham.

They also had live oysters and Brixham clams, and live Exmouth mussels:
They are also active members of the Sustainable Eel Group, and support the Eels in Schools Programme.

There's an attractive display of fresh fruit and vegetables:
and they've also got a good cheese counter:
Their bread:
comes from Hobbs House Bakery, so you know it's going to be really good.

There's a nice café
where you can have dishes like "flash fried smoked Severn & Wye eel fillet on a bed of mashed potato, served with a local cream, Tewkesbury mustard and Severn cider sauce". Wow!

If you're entertaining at home, there's some attractive desserts that you can buy:
and pretend you made them yourself!
