Bunbury - R F Burrows & Sons

Since this post was written, this shop has now closed.

Even if you're not from Cheshire, you might be thinking the above shop looks familiar? That's because it's currently on ITV, every Sunday, as part of Home Fires - a drama which examines the role of the Womens' Institute in World War 2.
It's easy to see why ITV picked Bunbury as a location for this drama. It's a delightful village, complete with a lovely old church, a water mill and three pubs (including my favourite), and it's changed very little over the years.
Burrows is a good old-fashioned (and that's a compliment) family butchers situated in the heart of the village. They can tell you exactly where their meat comes from (beef and lamb comes from Williamson's, and their pork comes from Johnson's - both just up the road in Utkinton).
They also do different lines, like their ebony and ivory lamb loins with white and black puddings. Mark is the fourth generation of this family butchers (they were established in 1924). They've won quite a few awards over the years including Best North West Rural Butcher of 2012 in the  Countryside Alliance awards and several gold awards for theirr sausages and burgers.
So if you want a nice rib of beef this Sunday:
and to step back into the past, in an attractive Cheshire village, you know where to come.
